For my final project, I wanted to challenge myself again with cyanotypes. I didn't do as well due to not coating the paper properly and making some images look washed out. However, I also wanted to do portraits since I want to do that as my career, so then I had a great idea to put the two together for my final project. I needed inspiration from someone that I didn't really heard of and also a women. I believe seeing and comprehending women photographers, I can have motivation and drive to want to be like them. That is why I chose Lisa Kristine as my inspiration for my final project on cyanotypes.
Lisa Kristine is a women photographer that takes portraits of different people around the world that are part of economical, social, or environmental humanity problems. She takes portraits of people in India, Africa, and other places. The above image is a women from Nepal that is laying on the ground. It's sad to hear the story of the women and what has happened to her. Kristine tells that she is a beggar and couldn't walk due to deformity. This drives empathy and sadness towards the image since she isn't receiving any help. I think Kristine's motivation of her portraits are inspirational and motivational. Her context really spreads awareness of different cultures and what is happening in varies parts of the world. It comes to show that we don't know exactly what is going on, but ultimately it spreads realization that photography can truly express what is going on in other countries.
With Kristine's portraits in mind, I was inspired to use portraits for my cyanotypes. However, I wasn't going to take pictures of economical problems, but more about what I want to do as a portrait photographer. The above image shows the woman laying down on the ground. I incorporated that into one of my portrait images. I had my model lay on the ground but rest her elbow on the ground and have her hand prop up her head. Kristine gave me some examples of what poses I could do for my model. I think it's always good to receive inspiration from other photographers so you can use their poses for your portraits. I am so happy I came across Lisa Kristine, she provided incredible portraits that led me motivated into using her poses for some of my own for my final project and future projects.
