Marco Breuer

Marco Breuer

Chemical painting has been a challenge during class. Deciding what substance to use on our paper and where to dip our paintings in, is rather hard. However, it brings about creativity and imagination on what you can make with chemical painting. I picked Marco Breuer to talk about due to the fact that his paintings are rather simple but fascinating at the same time. Some of his chemical paintings looks as if the paper was on fire or burned a little. Also, some of his work seems like you are looking down onto a plain or a piece of land. Breuer's work is quite remarkable and gives me some hope that I can accomplish a good chemical painting if I try hard enough.
I had a hard time picking a piece of Marco Breuer's work out on his website. They all were drawn to me due to their vibrant colors and incredible patterns. Some of the patterns are even shaped like cow prints. Additionally, a painting looked like an illusion due to the swirly pattern on the print. Breuer's paintings caught the eye, especially the one above. The painting reminds me of a big star in the sky casting its light onto the darkness. I'm ultimately drawn to the golden and navy blue color tones. I love how he created this work and how well it was executed. I believe there is also some pinks and purple colors in there which is amazing. Furthermore, I wish I knew his process with this piece. I wonder if he coated the paper with a substance to get that rich navy blue color or if the chemicals did that for him. Also, I think the lines might be tape or him folding it but I don't know how he got the background to be "cloud" like.
Ultimately, I am impressed with Breuer's paintings and how he got rich colors to appear. I am curious of his techniques and how he got purples and navy blue to appear. I have no critique for his artwork because I think it's beautiful and spectacular. I love all his work and it strives me to want to learn how he got to make these incredible pieces.
